The Fenix 7 series can connect to foot pods, bike turbo trainers, heart rate straps, and even Garmin bike lights. Maps for every continent can be downloaded to the watch’s internal memory, and you can use it to plan routes for hikes, bike rides, and runs while leaving your phone at home.

From some of the most well-known music services, like Spotify and Deezer, you can download music and podcasts using this tool. Furthermore, tracked outdoor sessions won’t drain the long-lasting battery because the MiP screen only gets clearer in strong sunlight.

The Garmin Epix (vivomove sport) 2 is very similar to the Fenix 7, but it replaces the useful but dated-looking MiP screen with an OLED that is much brighter, sharper, and more attractive. If you want a dedicated fitness tracker with a smartwatch-style sheen, it adds color and gloss, which is ideal.

None of the essential components are exchanged. The depth and breadth of the Epix 2 software remain best in class, making it especially useful when used without a phone. The Epix 2 feels more like a fitness computer than other trackers because it has downloadable maps, the ability to program routes directly onto the watch, and the ability to sync music to its internal storage. Although the library is small, you can download third party apps like other high-end Garmins.

Is it preferable to the Fenix 7? When used indoors, when serving only as a watch or providing you with structured workout instructions in the gym, it is a little more pleasant. But there is a cost in terms of battery life. Even with the screen lit constantly, the watch lasts about six days. The Garmin Epix 2 isn’t as fun to use in this mode, which extends the battery life to 16 days when the display is only lit when in use.

Since that is the best battery life that Fitbit offers and it is miles ahead of the Apple Watch, we won’t moan too much about it. We also liked the watch’s overall design because it isn’t too bulky to wear while you sleep. We were impressed by the six-day battery life and the large screen’s ability to make the always on display easy to read even in direct sunlight. The tracker’s lack of support for music downloads and listening, unless you specifically use the Deezer or Pandora apps, is our only real complaint.

For the majority of people, we believe the Fitbit Charge 5 to be the best Fitbit. You just need to choose between this and the larger, more expensive Fitbit Sense if you’re set on getting a Fitbit.

This model is much more compact. It’s not a watch; it’s a band. Additionally, you are not able to download any of the apps that are available for the Fitbit Versa and Sense, such as Spotify. If you’re using a Charge 5, you’ll need to use your phone if you want to run while listening to music.

However, Fitbit packs an impressive amount of features into the Fitbit Charge 5. It has a full GPS for tracking routes without a phone. The Whoop 4.0 defies almost all current trends. The wearable does away with a flashy touchscreen in favor of a covert “sensor suite,” the traditional watch-style buckle is changed to a woven, elasticized strap, and the step counter that made the likes of FitBit so popular is completely gone.

Instead, you get detailed sleep tracking along with ongoing monitoring of a variety of health metrics, such as heart rate, skin temperature, and heart rate variability. Three easily digestible daily scores—strain, sleep, and recovery—are generated using this data.

After a month of testing the Whoop 4.0, we concluded that this alternative strategy had both advantages and disadvantages. We were unable to track or check their pace during running sessions due to the lack of a screen or an integrated GPS, which makes them unsuitable for endurance activities. However, despite being struck with a kettlebell and submerged during a wild swimming session, the covert, screenless design felt strong and showed no signs of wear.

The streamlined strain, sleep, and recovery scores enabled us to train more effectively at a glance (taking rest days as necessary to speed up our recovery), while the attractive app offered plenty of detailed information for statheads to delve into.

We were able to improve our recovery score and felt noticeably fresher the next day when we followed the sleep coach’s advice on when to go to bed and how much sleep we required.

Instead of being a true fitness tracker, the Withings ScanWatch Horizon is referred to as a “Hybrid Smartwatch,” placing more emphasis on fashion and health metrics than sport-specific monitoring. You see, the ScanWatch Horizon simply appears, at first glance, to be a diver’s watch, complete with a rotating bezel and stainless steel case. A thoughtful feature that we thought looked and worked brilliantly is a small analogue dial in the lower half of the face that displays the percentage of your daily step goal that you have achieved.

The watch’s fitness tracking features, as previously mentioned, don’t go as far as those of the Garmin Fenix 7 and Whoop 4.0; feedback is limited to your heart rate and estimated calorie burn. It relies on being connected to the Health Mate app on a phone to track your route because it lacks an internal GPS, and it weighs more than most for intense workouts (72g).

However, the app is delightfully simple to use, and our tests revealed that Withings lived up to its impressive battery life claims despite having its stainless steel case and sapphire screen battered by barbells and submerged in the ocean (up to 30 days).

Therefore, the fashionable Withings ScanWatch Horizon might be the wearable for you if you’re looking for a smartwatch you can easily wear to a wedding as well as a sweaty gym session, with metrics to help you understand your health and motivate you to move more.

Throughout our month-long testing period, the Oura ring performed admirably. The real standout feature of the Oura ring is its ability to accurately track our sleep. Whenever we felt groggy or under-rested, the Oura ring was able to pinpoint when our sleep had been disturbed and how it had affected our REM sleep.

This information can be used by the ring to generate suggestions as well. For instance, our tester found that moving their workouts earlier in the day had a positive effect on their sleep latency (how long it took them to fall asleep.)

The ring has no screen because it is so small. You will need to use a companion app to view the majority of your health data instead. Although it does mean there is no simple and quick way to check things like your heart rate when you are in the middle of a workout, we didn’t find this to be a major problem.

The ring has amassed an impressive amount of data. To help screen for potential health issues, it measures your heart rate at various intervals throughout the day and your heart rate variability at night. Additionally, it has a useful “readiness” feature that will indicate whether you should prioritize rest or exercise.

We did discover that not all health metrics can be tracked with 100% accuracy. For instance, during our testing period, we discovered that it drastically overestimated calorie burn. Additionally, its “auto-detect” feature frequently recorded our workouts as containing the incorrect exercise, such as recording an HIIT session as a weights session. Despite this, we really like it because of its unique design and superior, unrivaled ability to track sleep.

It is significantly better than the relatively dim monochrome display of the more expensive Fitbit Inspire 2 and is sharp, colorful, and bright enough to appear clear outdoors.

Even the touchscreen interface responds quickly. At this price, you might anticipate glaring flaws, but any restrictions are not enough to make using a Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 less enjoyable.

The negative aspects? Although the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 lacks GPS, you can connect it to your phone while running to access detailed stats and maps. Additionally, you do not receive the guided workouts that come with a more expensive fitness tracker, and smart features essentially stop at phone notifications.

Active Zone Minutes, a feature introduced with the Charge 4, keeps track of how much time you spend exercising in the body fat-burning, cardio, or peak heart-rate zones. The 150 Active Zone Minutes per week recommended by the AHA and WHO are your target.

Fitbit has announced the launch of the Fitbit Versa 4, which will go on sale this fall, so if you’re considering purchasing the Fitbit Versa 3, it might be worthwhile to wait a few weeks. Having said that, the Fitbit Versa 3 is probably on sale right now if you’re looking for a fitness tracker that’s even less expensive.

Sleep tracking is one area where Fitbit excels, and the Versa is no exception. The spO2 sensor will measure your blood oxygen levels while you sleep, allowing you to track the information when you wake up (although bear in mind some of the stats can only be accessed if you have a Premium subscription).
